Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has been awarded a contract in Taiwan. The offshore company will be providing the scour protection for the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind farm, located some 8 km off the west coast of Taiwan.
The award was made by the project owner Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd., a partnership between renewable energy developer wpd (75%) and the Starwind Offshore consortium (27%) which is led by Sojitz Corp and also including Chugoku Electric Power Co. Inc., Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc. and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation.
Boskalis will install rock on the seabed around the 71 monopile foundations serving as scour protection. In total 325,000 tons of rock sourced from local quarries in Taiwan will be installed using a fallpipe vessel. The project is scheduled to commence early 2020 and is expected to be completed late 2020.
Yunlin offshore wind farm will comprise of 80 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with an individual rated output of 8 MW. 640 MW. The foundations are provided and installed by Van Oord. The wind farm reached financial close at the end of May this year and is expected to be completed in December 2021.
