On May 14, Boskalis, by order of TenneT, started with the installation of the jacket for the Borssele Beta Offshore High Voltage Substation.
The jacket was built by HSM Offshore in Schiedam. The jacket weighs 2,900 metric tonnes and is 55 metre heigh. The jacket will be fixed to the seabed by 6 piles. HSM is also responsible for the construction of the topside. This is currently being build at their Schiedam yard. The platform is to be operational in 2020. It will then collect and transform the power generated by the Borssele 3 & 4 Offshore Wind Farm. Via two export cables, the power is transported to land. Borssele 3 & 4 is a project by the Blauwwind consortium (Partners Group (45%), Shell (20%), DGE (15%), Eneco Groep (10%) en Van Oord (10%)).
HSM Offshore was also responsible for the construction of the Borssele Alpha station. Last week, the topside for this platform was sailed to the wind farm site for installation. Borssele Alpha will collect and transform the power that is generated by Ørsted’s Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm.
