On April 3, representatives of governments, initiators and neighbourhood and community councils signed a new covenant for the development of wind energy along the highway A16. In 2020, 28 wind turbines with a combined power of 100 MW will be installed in an area of 1 km on both sides of the highway.
The province of Brabant aims to realise 470.5 MW of wind energy onshore by 2020. The project is an initiative of the province, together with the municipalities of Breda, Drimmelen, Moerdijk and Zundert. At the end of 2015, a first covenant for cooperation was signed. Here the main focus was on the spatial planning.
Following the establishment by the Provincial Council of the Provincial Integration plan in September 2018, a new covenant was signed for further cooperation, focused particularly on supporting local participation through the development of local initiatives that accelerate the energy transition. Citizens, developers and other participants were also given the opportunity to show their support by signing the covenant. This was done by 20 organisations. Source: Energie16.nl
